The Château du Creux is a family home, not a museum. What sets it apart is that the same family line has lived in it without interruption since the 14th century.
In 1519 the estate entered the Fougières family through marriage; it was under their stewardship that Foacier remodelled the château in the 18th century. In 1837 a new alliance passed it to the House of Nicolay, who carry its continuity through to this day.
To stay at Le Creux is to be the guest of a living home, not the visitor of a frozen monument. The reception rooms have been lived in by the same families for centuries; the park is tended as it always has been; the library holds books no one has ever catalogued.
It is this presence, discreet and attentive, that makes the difference: you do not visit the past here, you stay within a story still unfolding.
