Characterful guest rooms in the Allier

Sleep in an 18th-century château, in a guest room or the group cottage

The floors at Le Creux creak in the same places as they did in the 19th century. Nicolas-Martial Foacier, architect to the King at Versailles, enlarged it and surrounded it with courtyards in the 1770s for the Fougières family. The Nicolay family has lived here since 1837. It is neither a hotel nor a museum: the château has no spa and no gourmet restaurant; people come for something else.

There are three options. The group cottage : the Maison du Régisseur, the estate steward’s former residence, taken as a whole for ten people, by the weekend, week or month. The guest room : one of the five rooms of that same house, for two people, or a room in the château. Private hire : the château and its park for a wedding or celebration, by quote only. Each option has its own page, so they are not confused.

Vallon-en-Sully is in the Bourbonnais, three hours from Paris. In the morning, the Tronçais forest is nearby. In the afternoon, the Aumance runs along the park. We describe these outings in our regional guide.

Frequently asked questions about your stay

What is the difference between a guest room and the group cottage?

The group cottage is the Maison du Régisseur rented as a whole: five bedrooms for ten people, two nights minimum (€900), by the week (€1,500) or by the month (€3,000). The same house can also be booked room by room, as guest rooms for two people at €150 a night. Two further rooms are available in the château, at €200 a night.

Which accommodation should we choose for a weekend with friends or a family gathering?

For up to ten people, the group cottage (the whole Maison du Régisseur) lets you stay together without sharing the house with other guests. For more than ten people, or for a celebration (wedding, corporate retreat, large family reunion), you need to go through private hire of the château, by quote only.

Is the château visit included?

Yes. The visit of the château, inside and out, is included for everyone who books accommodation, whether a room or the cottage.

Is breakfast served?

Yes: it is included in the rate of the five guest rooms in the Maison du Régisseur. A table d’hôte dinner can also be arranged on request, at €45 per person for a minimum of four guests.

How do I book and pay?

Write to us with the accommodation, your dates and the number of guests: we check availability and confirm by return. Online payment is coming soon (30% deposit if arrival is more than 30 days away). The tourist tax is paid on site.

Can we come with children?

Yes, an extra bed or a baby cot can be added on request, depending on the space available in the room. Just mention it when you book.

Where is the château and how do I get there?

The Château du Creux is in Vallon-en-Sully (Allier, 03190), in the Bourbonnais, about three hours from Paris. All the access details are on the “How to get here” page.
